Sveyn I Forkbeard (Sveyn Haraldsson) was born to Harald II Bluetooth (Harald Gormsson)  King of Denmark and Gyrid Olafsson in 910 CE. Svein became king of Denmark in 985 CE. He attacked England several times to collect Danegeld. In 1013 CE, he invaded England to capture the throne. Æthelred abandoned the throne and went into exile in Normandy.  Sveyn acceded to English throne in 1014 CE.

Sveyn I Forkbeard married Gunhilda of Poland and had  five children with her. They are Gytha Sveynsdottir, Sveynsson Harald III of Denmark, Sveynsson Canute II the Great, Gunhilda Sveynsdottir and Thyra Sveynsdottir. He married Sigrid the Haughty in 996 CE and had two daughters Svantoslava and Estrith (Margaret) of Denmark.

Sveyn I Forkbeard died five weeks after ascended the throne of England and interred at Roeskild Cathedral in Denmark.
