Edward II
Reign 1307-27 CE

Edward II was born to Eleanor of Castile and Edward I, King of England on april 25, 1284 at Caernarvon Castle, Wales. He acceded the throne in 1308 at Westminster Abbey, London, England.

Edward II married Isabella  of France in 1308 at Boulogne Cathedral, France. They had five children - Edward, John, Eleanor, Joanna and Adam.

Edward II's homosexual lover Piers Gaveston wielded considerable power after being recalled by Edward II from exile. The Barons alienated by the relationship, rallied under the Thomas the Earl of Lancaster.  The Parliament imposed restrictions on the powers of Edward II and exiled Gaveston. The barons revolted in 1312 and executed Gaveston.  Edward II came under the influence of another homosexual lover, Hugh Dispenser. In 1322, Edward fought and won at the Battle of Boroughbridge in Yorkshire against Earl Lancaster and executed Lancaster. He and Dispenser  ruled the government but acquired many enemies in this process. Edward sent his queen Isabella to France to negotiate with her brother King Charles IV about Gascony. She fell in love with Roger Mortimer, one of the rebellious barons. The rebellious couple invaded England in 1326 and imprisoned Edward II. Edward II was deposed in 1327 and replaced by his son, Edward III.

Edward II  was murdered on September 21, 1327 at Berkeley castle and was interred Gloucester Cathedral (St. Peter's Abbey ) in Gloucestershire, England.
