Edward the Elder was born in 869 CE to King Alfred the Great of England and Ealhswith. He became the King of England after
 his father's death in 899 CE.   He defeated the Danes (918), taking East Anglia,  Mercia (918) and Northumbria (920).  Thus the whole of the Danelaw was brought under Anglo-Saxon control.

He had three children with Ecgwyn.  AEthelstan, Alfred and Edith. He also had another ten children with AElfaeda. They were AElfweard, Edgifu, Edflaed, Edwin, AElflaeda,  AEthelflaeda, Edhilda  Eadgyth (Edith) AEthelhild and AElfgifu .
 

  Edward I, the Elder married Eadgifu (Edgiva) in 905 CE and had five children. They  were
Edgifu  Edburga  Edmund I the Elder, Eadred and Gregory of Einsiedlen.  He died in 924 CE and
                            interred at Winchester Cathedral in Winchester, England.
