Demetrius Poliorcetes

The rise of Demetrius Poliorcetes (the Besieger) on the throne of Macedonia brought the house of Antigonids in power. Demetrius is the first king whose portrait appeared on coins, while alive, thus emphasizing certain divine characteristics. His successors Antigonus Gonatas and Antigonus Doson reverted to depiction of the traditional pantheon.
